Yanni's Grill & Vineyard - Ankeny

We've been eating at Yanni's Grill & Vineyard in Ankeny for years, so I can't believe we're finally doing a post on the place - really, it's about time. Yanni's is located at 421 S Ankeny Blvd in Ankeny (they share a building with the Dairy Queen), and serves excellent Italian and Greek food.

The dining room is a nice, comfortable spot for lunch or dinner. Lots of vines and artwork, plus there are some comfy booths, too. They feature a full bar and have a great wine list.

We ordered a couple of cocktails, per usual for us, and had a peek at the dinner menu. Yanni's always provides high quality homemade food at an affordable price and there is lots to choose from on their menus for both lunch and dinner.

A great selection of appetizers including homemade onion rings, toasted ravioli, and dolmades. Dinner entrees range from homemade pastas, to Greek specialities, and everything from steak and seafood to veal and chicken. Sandwiches and salads, and homemade pizza round out the menu.

They even feature a special weekday menu where every entree is just $10!

While sipping on our cocktails, we decided we needed an appetizer. Then this happened. Yikes.

After the fire, there was saganaki! Flaming asiago cheese with lemon and marinara sauce - it was salty and creamy and the sauce is awesome. Loved this.

Grant started his dinner with Yanni's special Greek salad - tons of feta, some tasty greek olives and a special dressing.

I love their creamy parmesan dressing and enjoyed that on my salad.

Actually, I would eat at Yanni's Grill just for their garlic knots. These little balls of baked dough with butter and garlic are delicious - and the grilled garlic toast is pretty good, too!

We've got to have wine with dinner - so Grant ordered us a bottle of Ruffino Chianti. Nice and dry, a little fruity, it was a perfect accompaniment to our meals.

Grant rarely strays from the Greek items when we dine at Yanni's - they offer several like souvlaki, spanakopita, and a gyro platter. This time he went with the Mousaka - Greek style beef layered with eggplant and topped with both marinara and mediterrean sauces. It's always full of flavor and spices, and the sauces add so much to the enjoyment of this dish.

I've enjoyed a variety of dishes at Yanni's Grill - their steaks are fabulous, the pizza is great, but I really love homemade pasta - so I went with the Homemade Baked Lasagna. Tender homemade noodles layered with seasoned beef and cheese, yes, lots of cheese. The marinara sauce is so savory.

Just thought I'd let you see the many layers of goodness in the lasagna.

We also rarely pass up a piece of baklava for dessert - Yanni's also offers cheesecake, cannoli, and tiramizu, but the special taste of a traditional Greek dessert wins out every time. Layers of phyllo dough, nuts, and honey - yum.

Owner Ozzy Ochoa and his wonderful wait staff are committed to providing all diners with an exceptional dining experience at Yanni's Grill & Vineyard. Service was great on the night we visited, as it has been each time we've eaten at Yanni's. Yanni's also serves a delicious brunch on Sundays from 11am - 2pm, plus a regular lunch buffet from 11am - 2pm Tuesday - Friday.

If you find yourself in Ankeny, stop in for a great meal at Yanni's Grill & Vineyard - these Iowa Foodies will return again soon.

Taking a break, R we??

I loved your chili today at the Chilly Chili Challenge. Have you/will you post the recipe, or is it top secret?

Hi Erin, we're glad you enjoyed Grant's chili! Yes, the recipe will be posted here on Iowa Foodie, mostly likely within a week or so. Thanks for stopping by our blog!

Looks delicious. I have yet to try that place- I guess I will have to try it soon.
