The Lucky Pig Pub & Grill - Ogden

In keeping with the 'Iowa' half of Iowa Foodie, we ventured out to Ogden, IA, to visit The Lucky Pig Pub & Grill. Located at 113 W. Walnut in downtown Ogden, The Lucky Pig has undergone a nice renovation in the last few years. It's a great place to take the family for lunch or dinner, or meet some friends for happy hour.

There are lots of dining tables up front, or a more pub atmosphere in the back with a pool table, a few games, and flat screens to catch your favorite sports team.

We ordered up a beer and took some time to look at the menu. The Lucky Pig has some great appetizers including boneless wings, onion rings, poppers, and more. You'll find some fresh salads, lots of different sandwiches, including quite the selection of pork varieties like the The Big Boar BLT that adds a heap of ham and cheddar to a BLT, pulled pork, and Porky's revenge, a breaded tenderloin served on grilled ham, piled with pulled pork and topped again with bacon! Also, a nice selection of burgers.

They also have pizza and several dinner entrees like Prime Rib on Friday and Saturday nights, steak, pork ribeye, baked mac and cheese, and fish and chips. Definitely lots to choose from at The Lucky Pig.

Grant decided to go with their homemade breaded tenderloin, an excellent choice. Nicely tender with crispy breading, it was a huge piece of tenderloin goodness. I admit, I begged for a taste since I really wanted to try it, but didn't want to get the same thing! He had some tomato soup on the side, which I forgot to take a photo of, but was also very tasty.

I went with another pork favorite, the Bay of Pigs. This is The Lucky Pig's version of a Cuban sandwich with thinly sliced ham, roasted pork, pickle slices, swiss cheese, and mustard all on a grilled hard-crusted bun. It was very good - the roasted pork was juicy and blended perfectly with the ham and other toppings. They obviously know pork at this place.

And we even got to find out what pigs have to do with luck!

This little beauty was on the table.
