Los Laureles
May 9, 2015
We love Mexico, especially the food (that we featured here), so we're always looking for a good place to find real Mexican food in the greater DSM area. On a recent weekend, we ventured down to E Grand and stopped in at Los Laureles, at 1518 E Grand in Des Moines.
The menu is pretty extensive with lots of dishes you don't find everywhere, like real carne asada and guisado de lengua. And, of course, we had to try the margaritas, where were nice and tart.
Grant ordered pork carnitas tacos - juicy pork, lots of onions and cilantro, tasty corn tortillas - these are some real tacos.
When we're down in Isla Mujeres, I love the whole fried fish, and saw several guys at a nearby table eating some that looked delicious - but alas, when it came time for me to order, I was told those guys had ordered the last of the fish! Ahhh, the Chapin curse. No worries, I ordered my favorite crunchy treat, chicken tacquitos and they were fabulous. I love that spicy Mexican chicken and all that cheese sauce makes everything better.
So I guess you can plan waaaaay ahead for Cinco de Mayo 2016, or you could just stop in at Los Laureles sometime yet this year. Either way, it's a great little Mexican restaurant.
