1908 Draught House

We generally gravitate to anything remotely Chicago Cubs related, so a visit to 1908 Draught House was definitely in our plans. Located at 8789 Northpark Dr in Johnston, the baseball-themed sports bar opened in November 2013. Close to several area hotels, this place is popular with both locals and out-of-towners.

I love the exposed rafters and the whole wood-and-brick atmostphere, it's a warm and welcoming vibe. You'll find plenty of flat screens to watch the Cubs games (or any other sport, I suppose...ha) at 1908 Draught House, and in case you didn't know - 1908 was the last year the Cubs won the World Series, so we need all the support we can get.

They feature 20 beers on tap, plus a nice variety of $6 cocktails. Happy Hour is from 4 - 6pm Monday - Friday, and you'll get a dollar off every drink on the menu - which is a good deal, considering their prices are pretty affordable to start with.

There is a large patio too, with plenty of seating for the warm weather months. This isn't the best photo, but they have a large 'concession stand-like' window that opens up to the patio so the bartender is able to serve you out there and you can also see the TVs! And see those two white juicers? They serve fresh-squeezed orange and grapefruit juices with your cocktails! Oh, and that's your friendly bartender, Ryan, hiding back there.

The menu is pretty large, with a great selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, big 1/2 pound burgers, and pizza. The portions are pretty large, too, and and on the weekends they have brunch from 10 - 2, if you're looking for some more breakfasty items.

Grant ordered the chicken tacos - big chunks of grilled chicken are under all those onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and jalapenos - and you get two of these bad boys with an order. Served with taco sauce and sour cream, Grant really enjoyed these tacos. Great flavor and fresh ingredients.

He ordered chili for his side - it was a nice, lightly spiced chili, served with plenty of cheese.

I decided on the Club Sandwich with fries. Remember when I mentioned large portions? Yeah, this sandwich is BIG. Stuffed full of ham, turkey, and bacon, it was hard to finish the whole thing! The fries were perfectly crispy and potato-y. Mmmmm.

Because of it's excellent location just off NW 86th street in Johnston, 1908 Draught House is a great place for a workday lunch or dinner, or a relaxing meal on the patio on the weekend. They are gearing up to open their second location in Waukee, too, in The Shoppes at Williams Pointe on Hickman Road.

We had a late lunch here, so service was excellent - if it's a busy Friday lunch, you may experience more of a wait than we had - our server was friendly and efficient, and she was right there with our beverages, which is always a plus on a Saturday, right?

Don't miss stopping in at 1908 Draught House in Johnston - great bar food, plenty of beer on tap, and a nice happy hour - let us know if you stop in!
